An Unforgettable Day on the Reykjanes Peninsula – with a Perfect Stay at Flyer Airport Hotel

Traveling from Germany to Iceland had been on my bucket list for years, and during my recent trip, I found myself with one extra day before flying home. I decided to explore the Reykjanes Peninsula – and booking a room at Flyer Airport Hotel in Reykjanesbær on short notice turned out to be the best decision I could have made.

  • The hotel was exactly what I needed: just minutes from Keflavík Airport, clean and comfortable rooms, and 24/7 self check-in. I booked online, arrived within the hour, and was in my room with zero hassle. After a good night’s sleep and a strong morning coffee, I set off to explore.

My first stop was the volcanic eruption site, where the raw power of nature was on full display. Standing among lava fields and steaming craters felt almost otherworldly – a reminder of how alive this island truly is.

Next, I visited Gunnuhver, a dramatic geothermal area with powerful steam vents and vibrant mineral colors painting the ground. From there, I drove to the Bridge Between Continents, where I literally stood with one foot in Europe and the other in North America – a unique experience you won’t find anywhere else.

Then it was on to Brimketill, a natural lava rock pool carved out by the relentless waves of the Atlantic. The sight of the ocean crashing against the rugged coastline was both mesmerizing and humbling.

My last stop was Reykjanesviti, Iceland’s oldest lighthouse. Inside, I explored the maritime accident museum, filled with gripping stories and photographs documenting the dangers faced by sailors and rescuers through the years.

By evening, I was back at Flyer Airport Hotel, grateful for its perfect location. Staying in Reykjanesbær meant I was close to all these incredible sights while still being just a few minutes from the airport. Whether you’re catching an early morning flight or have a short stopover, this hotel is the ideal base for exploring the Reykjanes Peninsula.

I will definitely return – not only to discover more of this extraordinary region but also to enjoy the comfort and convenience of Flyer Airport Hotel again. Reykjanes is a true hidden gem, and with the right accommodation, it’s yours to explore effortlessly.
